This GeoGebra example demonstrates the geometric properties of a triangle after rotation. By constructing segments, polygons, intersections, midpoints, and angles, it dynamically illustrates rotating a triangle around a specific point. Suitable for junior high geometry teaching, it helps students intuitively understand corresponding points, corresponding segments, and corresponding angles during rotation, exploring the congruence of figures before and after transformation as well as related geometric measurements.
In this interactive applet, a triangle is drawn on the coordinate plane, and a rotation center is defined. Using GeoGebra's construction tools, users can create auxiliary elements such as connecting segments between corresponding vertices, locating midpoints of rotated sides, and measuring angles formed during the rotation process. The applet allows real-time manipulation of the rotation angle, enabling students to observe how every point on the original triangle maps to a unique position on the rotated image while preserving distances and angle measures. Key geometric relationships are highlighted throughout, including the fact that each vertex, its image, and the center of rotation form an isosceles triangle, and that the angle subtended at the center by any pair of corresponding points equals the angle of rotation.
Students can drag the rotation slider or manually adjust the angle to see immediate visual feedback, reinforcing the invariant properties of rotational transformations. The applet also displays computed values for side lengths, angle measures, and distances from points to the center, allowing learners to verify theoretically that rotation is a rigid motion preserving both length and angle. This hands-on, exploratory approach supports deeper conceptual understanding beyond rote memorization of transformation rules.
